November 2 - December 7
Ages 4-7
In our six-week workshop series, young artists will explore the versatility of recycled and natural materials to create unique masterpieces. From colorful bottle caps and plastic waste to twigs, leaves, and stones, kids will learn fun techniques to transform everyday items into stunning art pieces while being inspired by the beauty of nature. Led by our instructor Lexi Shipanoff, this eco-friendly class encourages imaginative thinking and environmental awareness. Come unleash your creativity and help our planet, one artwork at a time!
About the instructor: Lexi (she/her) is an interdisciplinary artist with a passion for bugs, mushrooms, and other oddities & wonders of the natural world. November 2: Paper Clay
Learn how to make paper clay from recycled materials! We will explore how different paper materials yield different results, and create sculptures inspired by the natural world with our homemade clay. Students will be provided with a written copy of the recipe for them to try at home.
November 9: Recycled Mosaics
Learn how to create a mosaic masterpiece using materials such as pop tabs, bottle caps, and other waste! Students will challenge their creativity to craft these objects into a two-dimensional collage, using modelling paste as the base of their creation.
November 16: Junk Bugs
Transform old waste into beautiful creepy-crawlies! Younger students will experiment with cardboard, paper, and plastic waste to sculpt their junk bugs.
November 23: Gnome Homes
Using materials found in nature, we will build tiny houses to invite the gnomes and fairies to live in our backyards! Younger participants will use natural materials such as bark, sticks, and rocks to craft doorways for their fantastical creatures.
November 30: Wiggly Worms
Learn to sculpt with old candles! Using warm water to soften the candles, students will be able to bend and sculpt the wax material into some wiggly wormy friends. Kids will be guided on how to use sculpture tools to carve details onto the candles, and add further decoration with acrylic paint.
December 7: Upcycled Mirros
Some say that when a mirror breaks, it's bad luck... We say it’s an opportunity for art! Using pieces of broken mirror (which will be double taped on all sides to avoid any sharp edges) students will use clay, cardboard, beads, glitter, and other decorative elements to create a funky new mirror that deserves a place on the wall.
